We’re deep into summer now as the next 8static approaches. Come out to PhilaMOCA and escape the heat on July 13th to see a soon-to-be-legendary show!
Philadelphia’s prodigal son returns! Chipocrite‘s live performances are known for his special blend of LSDJ and bass guitar, but this show will introduce some new surprises. Fresh off the release of his 8-bit Lebowski album, Chipocrite has been prepping release for his second original album! He will debut much of that material at this show with live guitar and drum accompaniment!! Those of us that were lucky enough to catch his surprise set at MAGFest 11 were treated to a glimpse of his material with live drums, and this will be no disappointment!! Having made waves at last Blip Festival and touring the anime con circuit, Chipocrite has a captured huge following by simply writing very good electronic music that feels like it’s telling a story. We can’t wait to hear the next chapter at this 8static!
If you’ve ever found yourself saying, “man, i wish more chip performers did jump kicks and stood on their table when they performed!” then make sure you check out Kris Keyser‘s set! Having also played Blip Festival 2012 and MAGFest 11, Kris is an expert at winning over an audience with his infectious dance music and high energy performances! It’s been about a year since his last show at 8static and we look forward to welcoming him back! Using only a single LSDJ cart for most of his songs, Kris pushes the limits of the medium with incredible results.
Rescheduled from March’s show, we finally welcome the debut appearance of Noisewaves from Grand Rapids, Michigan!! Consisting of a drummer, guitar player and an NES, Noisewaves’ music has a bittersweet post-rock influenced sound. They blew us all away at MAGFest 9, had the honor of playing Blip festival 2011 and more recently charmed the audience at Rochester chip fest! Expect an equally moving performance at this show! We are very excited to finally host a show for these guys!!
Formerly one-half of the extremely popular west coast pop-chip band, The Glowing Stars (who played their final live show last year), Matthew Joseph Payne has been focusing on his solo project. As a visualist and songwriter, he brings diverse talent to his current work. A drummer, vocalist. banjo player and LSDJ programmer, Matt’s music tends to be genre-blending with often heavy themes explored under a mix of folk, rock, chamber music and baroque styles. Also providing visuals for the evening, Matt will showcase another example of some of the talent out on the west coast we rarely are treated to here in Philadelphia. Prepare to enjoy the unexpected!
Like the flyers we make every month? How about the stickers? Tried using pixel-art programs and not getting the results you expect? Well, Animal Style will be giving us tips on how to master the medium with his Pixel Art Workshop before the show!
If you are looking to party more after the show come listen to some dance music from the future as Decktonic takes the helm upstairs at the The Institute Bar down the block! Also don’t forget, as an 8static patron your bill will be 10% off!
Admission will be a sliding scale of $7-$10. Those that support 8static with a $10 admission fee will receive a special sticker exclusive to this month’s show! Spread the word and get your friends to join us at another amazing 8static at PhilaMOCA!!!
